After being “silenced” and not allowed to speak during a 3 hour debate on birth control on the House floor, I recently filed a bill limiting men’s access to vasectomies. HB1853 would place the same government oversight to men that the Missouri legislature routinely places on women’s on private reproductive health decisions.
In the past two weeks since Rush Limbaugh mentioned my bill on air, I’ve had an overwhelming response from women and men – not only in Missouri, but all over the country, even Canada! As my efforts spread via national media, voters are thanking me for standing up to the constant barrage of anti-women bills that we constantly debate in committee or on the House floor.
I am just as committed to pushing back against the annual “voter suppression” efforts in Missouri. Unconstitutional voter ID bills are filed each year even though over 250,000 current Missouri voters – the elderly, disabled, working poor, students, women & minorities of color would be suppressed. This has become a nationwide effort since November 2008 but why? These groups simply don’t “vote right”. They also cite that pesky myth of “voter fraud” from machine gun gangster days of 1936 – the only documented case the GOP can find.
AND to top it all off, Speaker Tilley wants to honor Rush Limbaugh by adding his bust in the State Capitol – regardless of the radio host’s recent sexist inflammatory tirades. The anti-woman/anti-minority sentiment is prevalent throughout the legislature and I’m beyond outraged.
I need your help to continue being vocal as I face re-election in 2012. I fully expect a contested primary in August and a general in November. Neither will stop me.
Your $25, $50, $100 or even $250 will help me remain in the legislature. Please visit www.StaceyNewman.com today and donate easily online via ActBlue.
I refuse to sit idly by.
