41 days of legislative session so far…. This past week we finished the House work on the Budget and sent 13 bills over to the Senate. Many of us tried hard to stop the drastic cuts to public education and vital social programs that people really need, particularly now. It was difficult to see needless programs that need to be cut – such as a $1200 per video program to record MO veteran histories – remain in the budget.
This past week there was tremendous emotion on the floor. We Democrats are consistent in our efforts to protect and help Missourians in this tough economy. We are truly ecstatic that federal health care reform has passed and signed into law by President Obama. Finally we have hope that insurance companies cannot prevent us from healthcare coverage and access.
However I’m sure we will be spending our remaining days on more resolutions against healthcare reform instead of concrete work to create jobs and other beneficial legislation.
