The Missouri Constitution requires the General Assembly to do only one thing- pass the state budget. It was quite painful to do with our drastically declining state revenue.
Much of our session was spent on inconsequential non-binding resolutions for Congress and political statements. Check out today’s St. Louis Post-Dispatch editorial.
THE BEST LEGISLATION?
Hands down, the Austism Bill – HB1311/1341, requiring MO insurance companies to cover austim and spectrum disorder treatments, was our best bill to pass this year.
THE MOST EMBARRASSING/WORST LEGISLATION?
By overwhelming consensus across the state, this award goes to the “Sham Ethics” Bill, SB844 which was rammed through on the House floor.
Sadly, Missouri remains one of the four states in the nation that have NO limits on campaign donations or lobbyist gifts.
Check out a great commentary on the Ethics (or the Sham Ethics) bill here.
